Hi! My name is Isaac Rodriguez, as you might have guessed. I’m a programmer, team lead, and mentor, who has been writing code and solving tough problems for many years. I’m passionate about Software Craftsmanship and Test-Driven Development because writing software is hard and we need all the help we can get.
I’m passionate about technologies and how technologies can assist our lives. Still, I’m skeptical and cautious when I evaluate the latest buzzed tools, and I’ll be honest, I not always understand what the hype is about.
When I’m not in front of a computer, you can find me walking around the house or the deck reading an e-book. Yes, I walk while I read unless I’m reading in bed.
I like to play golf, which I don’t do often nor well. I love to play the piano and keyboards, which I do well enough to fake it. And back in the day, I was really into magic, which I put aside a long time ago and other than I still love it, I have nothing to show for it.
Yes, that beautiful woman in the picture with me is my wife Susana, who has put up with me for a very long, happy time.
Quick Note About Star Ratings
My book reviews are intended to help readers of this blog interested on the books I read, but the star rating I use is for my personal use, and it might not match your own rating system.
With a few exceptions from books by authors that I follow consistently, I only read books that have an average rating of 4 stars or higher in Goodreads. I respect every author brave enough to publish their work for everyone to see, and I’m in no position to critique their work. I use my start rating to guide me in future book selections and this is what the rating means according to my personal taste:
- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I will recommend this book to anyone regardless of taste and genre preferences.
- ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I will highly recommend this book if you are interested in the genre.
- ⭐⭐⭐ You might like this book, but you can skip it if you have something else to read.
- ⭐⭐ I didn’t enjoy the book.
I never give a book a rating lower than 2 stars (it’s pointless), and I will certainly never write a review for it. I rarely give a book less than three stars. I believe writing a book is a huge endeavor that should not be criticized lightly. A 4 stars rating is rare and makes me happy, and 5 star rating is exceptional.
